Job Overview: A law firm specializing in Workers' Compensation law seeks an Associate Attorney to represent injured plaintiff employees in Charlotte, NC. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive legal counsel and representation throughout various stages of workers’ compensation cases under the NC Workers’ Compensation Act.

Duties:

  • Represent injured plaintiff employees in their NC workers’ compensation cases.
  • Provide legal advice and representation from pre-litigation through post-litigation phases, including discovery, settlement negotiation, and beyond.
  • Assist injured plaintiff employees in obtaining benefits under the NC Workers’ Compensation Act.
  • Litigate cases at the Deputy Commissioner, Full Commission, and Court of Appeals levels.
  • Draft pleadings, discovery requests, orders, and motions.
  • Negotiate settlement terms and language, including settlement agreements and releases/job resignations.
  • Prepare briefs for hearings at the Deputy Commissioner and Full Commission levels of the NC Industrial Commission and the NC Court of Appeals.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
  • License to practice law in North Carolina.
  • 1-3 years of experience practicing as an attorney in a law firm setting; plaintiff’s Workers’ Compensation experience preferred.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
  • Exceptional analytical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills for client interactions and team collaboration.
  • Self-motivated with a demonstrated initiative to manage duties independently.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and maintain attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows/Office; familiarity with Litify software preferred.
  • Capability to prioritize responsibilities in response to changing demands.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • License to practice law in North Carolina.

Skills:

  • Legal research and writing.
  • Litigation and negotiation.
  • Case management and client advocacy.
  • Time management and prioritization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with Litify software (preferred).
