A law firm in Atlanta, GA, is seeking a General Liability Associate Attorney with 2+ years of civil litigation experience, particularly in insurance defense. The ideal candidate will have exceptional writing, research, and litigation skills, with experience in handling civil cases from start to finish. Responsibilities include legal analysis, drafting substantial legal documents, representing clients in various legal proceedings, and collaborating with expert witnesses. The role requires a strong work ethic, superior analytical skills, and the ability to manage a high billable hour requirement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct file reviews and legal analysis of claims and causes of action.
  • Perform extensive legal research and draft substantial briefs, memos, pleadings, and appellate briefs.
  • Represent clients regularly in court, at arbitrations, and in depositions.
  • Draft and respond to discovery requests, including expert witness retention and collaboration.
  • Prepare for and attend trials, managing all aspects of trial preparation.
  • Handle civil cases from inception to resolution, including taking and defending depositions (including 30(b)(6) and expert depositions), drafting and arguing substantive motions, and attending hearings and trials.
  • Participate in negotiations and mediations to resolve disputes effectively.
  • Some travel may be required for client meetings, court appearances, or other legal proceedings.
  • Maintain an annual billable amount of 1950 hours.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of civil litigation experience with a focus on insurance defense.
  • Exceptional writing, research, and litigation skills.
  • Experience handling civil cases from beginning to end, including depositions, motions, hearings, and trials.
  • Familiarity with expert witness retention and collaboration.
  • Ability to represent clients effectively in various legal settings.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Solid research skills and excellent written and oral communication.
  • Ability to self-manage and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Prompt response to e-mail and phone inquiries.
  • Excellent client interaction skills and telephone manner.

Education:

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an ABA-approved law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to practice in the state of Georgia; admission in other states is a plus but not required.
