Job Overview:

A prominent law firm is seeking a Legal Innovation Counsel to support its Practice Innovation initiatives. This role is ideal for a licensed attorney with legal technology experience and a deep understanding of law firm operations. The position involves collaborating with practice group leaders, resource attorneys, legal educators, and innovation teams to drive technology adoption and implement process improvements across legal practices. This strategic role aims to enhance efficiency, client service delivery, and competitive positioning through innovative tools and methodologies.

Location:

Duties:

  • Provide legal and strategic input on legal tech adoption across practice groups

  • Develop and maintain playbooks to guide best practices for technology usage

  • Lead presentations, briefings, and status reports for various stakeholders

  • Partner with firm leadership to prioritize and manage innovation requests and initiatives

  • Work with cross-functional teams to define project goals, success metrics, and implementation timelines

  • Analyze and improve practice group workflows through collaboration with legal project management and pricing teams

  • Lead or support legal technology pilots, proof-of-concepts, and deployments

  • Coordinate with change management on communication strategies and user adoption tracking

  • Create and scale practice-specific legal resources in coordination with Practice Engineering and related departments

  • Adapt responsibilities based on evolving firm and industry needs

Requirements:

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in legal practice or hands-on involvement in legal tech implementation

  • Active bar membership or in-house counsel registration in relevant jurisdictions

  • Experience leading or participating in multi-departmental projects involving legal innovation

  • Familiarity with law firm financial operations and resource allocation

  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including weekends as needed

  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office, iManage, and firm-specific tools (after orientation)

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or international equivalent

Certifications:

  • Active and valid law license in applicable U.S. jurisdictions

Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability

  • Capacity to handle complex data and deliver accurate, actionable insights

  • Presentation skills tailored for both technical and legal audiences

  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to engage stakeholders across departments

  • Familiarity with large law firm technologies such as:

    • iManage or NetDocs

    • Elite 3E

    • Intapp

    • Litera Suite

    • Thomson Reuters and Lexis platforms

  • Experience with generative AI in legal contexts (preferred)

  • Understanding of alternative legal service providers and managed service models

  • Ability to use data for insight generation and strategic storytelling

  • Adept at working in highly matrixed organizational environments
