Job Overview

A prestigious law firm is currently seeking a Tax Associate with 2-3 years of experience to join its Project Finance team, focusing on renewable energy and energy transition projects. The role will involve supporting senior attorneys with structuring and advising on complex tax matters, including solar, wind, geothermal, battery storage, carbon capture, and other related projects. Duties

  • Support senior associates and partners in advising clients on tax issues related to renewable energy projects such as solar, wind, geothermal, battery storage, and others.
  • Assist with structuring tax-efficient transactions involving tax credits, partnership taxation, and other renewable energy incentives.
  • Collaborate with project developers, lenders, and investors on financing, structuring, and tax aspects of energy projects.
  • Draft tax opinions, memoranda, and related documents for clients in the renewable energy sector.
  • Stay current on tax law developments, including the Inflation Reduction Act and other energy transition incentives.
  • Assist with complex mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and financing transactions.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years of experience as a tax lawyer, preferably with a focus on renewable energy or project finance.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy tax incentives, such as tax credits in the Inflation Reduction Act and partnership taxation.
  • Strong academic background with demonstrated excellence in tax law.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to clients and colleagues.
  • Highly motivated and a team player, able to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • LLM in Taxation is preferred but not required.

Certifications

  • Admission to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction (e.g., Washington, D.C., New York, or other applicable jurisdictions).

  • Expertise in federal tax law, particularly in relation to renewable energy and project finance.
  • Strong drafting, analytical, and research skills.
