Job Overview

A law firm in Salt Lake City, UT, is seeking a skilled Patent Agent to join its team. The Patent Agent will support patent attorneys in preparing and prosecuting patent applications, working closely with inventors, and ensuring the smooth progress of patent applications. This role requires a solid technical background and familiarity with patent law to manage and advance clients' intellectual property interests effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist patent attorneys with the preparation and prosecution of patent applications.
• Collaborate with inventors to understand and document newly created products.
• Identify patentable inventions and conduct comprehensive research on current patented technologies.
• Draft patent applications with the support of the patent team.
• Track the patent application process from initial filing to granted patent, ensuring deadlines and requirements are met.
• Conduct regular ability searches to support patent applications.
• Address client challenges and respond to client inquiries with practical solutions.
• Respond to office actions and correspond with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
• Consistently meet billable hour requirements as set by the firm.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering.
• Master’s Degree or PhD preferred.
• USPTO Registration required.
• Minimum of 1 year of professional experience; 2+ years preferred.
• Background in Electrical Engineering or Biotechnology and prior experience in patent law is highly desirable.
