Job Overview:
A distinguished law firm is seeking a Patent Agent with a background in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science to join its Patent Prosecution and Counseling group. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience in patent application drafting, with a preference for those experienced in software or artificial intelligence (AI) fields. The candidate should be self-motivated, with strong writing and analytical skills.

Location:

  • Washington, D.C.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications, particularly in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science-related fields.
  • Provide strategic advice and counsel to clients on patent and intellectual property matters.
  • Conduct legal research related to patents and stay updated on changes in intellectual property law.
  • Work closely with clients and other team members to ensure effective patent portfolio management.
  • Assist in all stages of patent filing and prosecution with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Requirements:

  • Minimum of three years of experience as a patent agent.
  • Experience drafting patent applications, particularly in software and/or AI areas (preferred).
  • USPTO examiner experience (strongly preferred).
  • Excellent academic credentials.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science.

Certifications:

  • Registered Patent Agent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills:

  • Expertise in drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Strong legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and client interactions efficiently.
