Job Overview:
A well-regarded law firm is seeking a talented mid-level Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney to join its team. This role involves working within the firm’s dynamic Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group. The ideal candidate will have experience in patent prosecution, including drafting applications, and a background in mechanical or electrical engineering or similar technical fields. Candidates should possess strong communication skills and the ability to effectively analyze complex legal and technical issues.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications, including preparation and filing of patent applications with the USPTO.
  • Manage patent portfolios and assist clients with intellectual property strategies.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to ensure the successful prosecution of patent applications.
  • Perform detailed patent searches and provide comprehensive analysis.
  • Handle office actions, patent opinions, and responses to USPTO communications.
  • Stay informed on developments in patent law, technical fields, and IP practices to provide proactive legal counsel.
  • Work closely with litigation teams as needed to support patent-related disputes.

Requirements:

  • 3-6 years of experience in patent prosecution, particularly in application drafting.
  • Degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Registration with the USPTO.
  • Barred in the state of South Carolina.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or similar technical field.

Certifications:

  • USPTO Registration.
  • Active Bar membership in South Carolina.

Skills:

  • Excellent patent prosecution skills, including application drafting.
  • Ability to understand complex technical concepts and communicate them effectively in legal contexts.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Proficient with patent law, including knowledge of the USPTO processes and regulations.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
