Job Overview:

A law firm in Richmond, VA, is seeking a highly skilled Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Attorney to design, implement, and maintain comprehensive employee benefits programs. This attorney will analyze and ensure compliance with relevant code sections and regulatory requirements, provide counsel on a range of issues related to employee benefits and executive compensation, and lead the firm's practice in this area.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive employee benefits programs.
  • Analyze and ensure compliance with Code Sections 409A, 457(f), 280G, and 162(m).
  • Negotiate with regulatory bodies such as the IRS, DOL, and PBGC.
  • Counsel clients on ERISA issues related to mergers, acquisitions, defined pension plans, cash balance plans, collective bargaining agreements, and retiree health plans.
  • Advise clients on the Affordable Care Act, wellness programming, HIPAA, and HITECH requirements.
  • Work with a diverse client base, including for-profit, tax-exempt entities, large health systems, and governmental entities.
  • Participate in the Firm’s Policy Committee and Recruiting Committee.
  • Lead the firm’s Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation practice.

Requirements:

  • License to practice law in Virginia.
  • Extensive experience in employee benefits and executive compensation.
  • Strong knowledge of Code Sections 409A, 457(f), 280G, and 162(m).
  • Proven ability to negotiate with regulatory bodies.
  • In-depth understanding of ERISA, the Affordable Care Act, HIPAA, and HITECH.
  • Experience working with a diverse range of clients.
  • Leadership experience and ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active Virginia State Bar license.
