Job Overview:

A law firm located in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Junior To Mid-Level Product Design And User Interface Patent Associate Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in patent preparation and prosecution with a focus on emerging technologies, including software, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), networking, and quantum technologies. This position requires a candidate with a combination of technical expertise and legal acumen to provide comprehensive patent services to the firm’s clients.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and prosecute U.S. patent applications for clients in various cutting-edge technology fields such as software, artificial intelligence, IoT, networking, and quantum technologies.
  • Provide legal counsel regarding patent strategies to protect clients' intellectual property assets.
  • Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses for inventions in relevant technology sectors.
  • Collaborate with inventors, engineers, and product designers to understand technical inventions and innovations.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate intellectual property agreements, including licensing agreements.
  • Stay current on changes in U.S. patent law and technological advancements in relevant fields.
  • Work closely with the litigation team to support patent litigation efforts when required.
  • Provide legal support for product development teams regarding user interface designs and product features.
  • Advise clients on patent portfolio development and management strategies.
  • Assist in the development and enforcement of internal firm policies related to patent prosecution and client engagement.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience in patent preparation and prosecution.
  • Strong background in software-related technologies, artificial intelligence, IoT, networking, and/or quantum technologies.
  • Must possess a high level of academic achievement and solid experience working in a law firm setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into understandable legal language.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required.
  • Undergraduate or advanced degree in physics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related technical field.
