Entry-Level Criminal Defense Attorney

Job Overview:

A premier law firm in Sacramento is seeking an Entry-Level Criminal Defense Attorney to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for a new attorney to gain valuable experience and grow within a well-established firm. As an Entry-Level Criminal Defense Attorney, the individual will report to the Managing Criminal Defense Attorney, manage a caseload, interact with clients, and collaborate with a team of attorneys and legal assistants.

Location:

• Sacramento, California

Duties:

• Advise clients on their legal rights and responsibilities in criminal cases.
• Draft legal documents and motions related to clients’ cases.
• Attend pretrial hearings and provide strategic guidance to clients following each hearing.
• Handle court appearances, trials, and interviews with witnesses.
• Conduct legal research and analyze legal precedents to assess case outcomes.
• Manage a caseload and ensure all cases are progressing effectively.
• Accumulate additional evidence to support clients’ cases or challenge the prosecution’s arguments.
• Prepare clients for depositions and assist in case strategy by gathering witness information and expert support.

Requirements:

• Experience:
  • Demonstrated interest in criminal defense law through law school clinics, volunteer work, or internship experience.
  • Ability to manage a caseload and move cases forward effectively.
• Skills:
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a team-oriented approach.
  • Ability to collaborate and strategize with fellow attorneys.
  • Experience with case management software is preferred but not required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred but not required.

Education:

• Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Admission to the California State Bar (or pending admission).

Skills:

• Knowledge of criminal law and defense strategies.
• Strong research, writing, and communication skills.
