Job Overview
A leading law firm is seeking an experienced Energy Regulatory Attorney to join its Energy Practice Group at the counsel level. The ideal candidate will have a broad background in federal and state energy regulatory matters, particularly in renewable energy sectors like solar, wind, storage, and energy transition areas such as hydrogen, carbon, electric vehicles, and microgrids. Experience with oil and gas regulatory issues is a plus. This role involves advising and representing developers, sponsors, lenders, investors, and other stakeholders on complex energy development and finance transactions, including project agreements, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory compliance.

Duties

  • Advise clients on federal and state energy regulatory matters, particularly in renewable energy sectors (solar, wind, storage, hydrogen, electric vehicles)
  • Represent developers, sponsors, lenders, tax equity investors, and others on energy development and finance transactions
  • Negotiate and draft key project agreements, such as power purchase agreements, interconnection agreements, and share facility agreements
  • Counsel clients on equity and debt financing, mergers, acquisitions, and other complex transactions in the energy sector
  • Provide senior-level oversight on regulatory matters, ensuring compliance with energy regulations and project goals
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, providing strategic advice on regulatory issues
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage complex legal projects

Requirements

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in energy regulatory law, particularly in renewable energy and energy transition sectors
  • Strong expertise in structuring and negotiating project agreements, including power purchase and interconnection agreements
  • Experience in advising clients on energy finance, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory compliance
  • Strong client management and project leadership skills
  • Ability to work effectively in complex, dynamic, and fast-paced legal environments
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Active membership in the Bar of the relevant jurisdiction(s)
  • Timely admission to the state Bar required upon employment
