A law firm in Newport is seeking an Associate Attorney to manage bankruptcy matters, particularly those that are contested or litigated. The Associate Attorney will draft and review pleadings and claims, respond to objections and motions, attend hearings, and handle firm-wide bankruptcy inquiries. This role demands advanced computer skills, a meticulous attention to detail, and effective communication abilities.

 

Duties:

  • Manage bankruptcy matters that are contested or litigated.
  • Draft and review all pleadings and claims filed in bankruptcy matters.
  • Respond to objections and motions involving the rights of clients.
  • Attend scheduled hearings and represent clients effectively.
  • Respond to general firm-wide bankruptcy inquiries.
  • Prepare and execute necessary documents.
  • Draft and review all filings on behalf of clients.
  • Monitor electronic filings (ECFs) diligently.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients.
  • Stay informed on bankruptcy rules/laws and general creditor rights laws.
  • Utilize various case management systems proficiently.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice law in Florida, with additional admission to Federal Districts in Florida.
  • Familiarity with Florida bankruptcy courts, local rules, and court procedures.
  • License to practice law in other states is a plus.
  • Experience representing creditors and/or debtors in Chapter 7, 11, and 13 bankruptcy cases.
  • Ability to handle a high-volume workload with significant client contact.

  • High level of attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective time management and the ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Advanced computer literacy and the ability to quickly learn different case management systems.
  • Familiarity with the CM/ECF filing system.

 

Certifications:

  • Must be admitted to practice law in Florida and the Federal Districts in Florida.
  • Admission in other jurisdictions is advantageous and may substitute for Florida admission.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • 1+ years of experience in bankruptcy and/or creditor’s rights.
  • Working knowledge of the Bankruptcy Code.
  • Solid understanding of consumer loan documents.
  • Experience in bankruptcy litigation-related matters.
  • Familiarity with bankruptcy courts, local rules, and court procedures in jurisdictions beyond Florida.
