A law firm is seeking a highly skilled and knowledgeable Chemical Patent Agent or Scientific Advisor to join their fast-growing intellectual property practice in Columbus, OH. The ideal candidate will have a technical degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bio-Sciences, or a related field, with strong academic credentials and excellent analytical, research, writing, and communication skills.

 

Key Duties:

  • Assist in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in the fields of chemistry, chemical engineering, and bio-sciences.
  • Conduct patentability searches and analyze scientific and technical documents.
  • Draft and review patent applications, ensuring clarity and compliance with legal standards.
  • Provide technical support for patent litigation and enforcement matters.
  • Communicate with clients to understand their inventions and provide strategic advice on intellectual property matters.
  • Respond to office actions and correspond with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Conduct legal and technical research to support patent applications and litigation.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and other legal professionals within the firm to deliver optimal client outcomes.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and provide ongoing technical and patent-related counsel.
  • Stay updated on changes in patent laws, regulations, and relevant scientific advancements.

 

Requirements:

  • Technical degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bio-Sciences, or a related field.
  • Strong academic credentials.
  • 2+ years of experience in patent prosecution and drafting.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical issues and provide effective solutions.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • High ethical standards and professional integrity.

 

Education:

Technical degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bio-Sciences, or a related field.

 

Certifications:

Admission to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is preferred for Scientific Advisors.
