A law firm is seeking a dedicated and adaptable Associate Attorney to become part of its legal team, focusing on matters related to guardianship, estate planning, and probate. This position is well-suited for an attorney who thrives in a high-volume practice, enjoys building client relationships, and has a passion for helping families — including those with special needs — navigate critical life planning processes. The role requires a mix of direct client counsel, meticulous document preparation, and regular court involvement, all while maintaining a high standard of legal excellence and client service.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage a consistent caseload involving legal guardianships, conservatorships, and related protective proceedings.
  • Advise and guide clients throughout all case stages, from initial consultation to final resolution.
  • Draft, review, and file essential legal documents, including petitions, responses, and supporting materials for court filings.
  • Participate in local court registry panels, fulfilling duties such as serving as a Court Visitor or acting as court-appointed legal counsel when assigned.
  • Provide customized estate planning services tailored to individual client needs, with particular attention to clients responsible for loved ones with special needs.
  • Prepare key estate planning instruments such as powers of attorney, wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, and advance directives.
  • Manage probate cases, ensuring that estates are properly administered and legal timelines are met.
  • Conduct legal research and analyze developments affecting guardianship, probate, and estate planning laws and regulations.
  • Draft internal case summaries, strategy reports, and advisory memoranda to maintain clear communication with supervising attorneys and firm leadership.
  • Foster open communication channels with clients, court staff, opposing counsel, and professional service providers to ensure smooth case progression.
  • Uphold compliance with applicable legal standards, ethical rules, and firm policies throughout the entire lifecycle of each case.

Qualifications & Education:

  • Possesses a Juris Doctor (JD) degree earned from an accredited law institution.
  • Licensed and in good standing to practice law within the state.
  • At least 2 years of experience handling matters in estate planning, probate, family law, or similar fields is preferred.
  • Direct experience managing guardianship and conservatorship cases is a strong advantage.

Required Skills:

  • Exceptional legal writing, drafting, and document preparation capabilities.
  • Strong ability to explain legal terms, processes, and obligations to clients in plain, accessible language.
  • Outstanding organizational skills, capable of managing multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously without compromising accuracy.
  • Client-centered approach with a focus on compassionate service and understanding diverse family dynamics.
  • High attention to detail, ensuring all documents, filings, and internal records meet professional and legal standards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a legal team while maintaining independence on assigned cases.
  • Research proficiency, including the ability to assess and apply evolving legal precedents and statutory changes.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the state bar association, with a record in good standing.
  • Additional certifications related to estate planning, elder law, or probate practice are a plus but not required.

Perks & Benefits:

  • 401(k) plan with employer contribution options.
  • Financial contributions toward health and dental insurance coverage.
  • Disability insurance to provide income protection if needed.
