Job Overview: A law firm seeks a mid-level Finance & Bankruptcy Associate Attorney to join its team in New York. The successful candidate will gain exposure to high-profile, complex financial restructurings, creditor’s rights litigation, and cross-border bankruptcy cases. This role offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative team environment while utilizing the resources of a major national and international law firm.

Duties:

  • Represent debtors, creditor’s committees, lenders, and investors in bankruptcy and financial restructuring matters.
  • Draft bankruptcy petitions, first-day pleadings, and other bankruptcy-related motions and disclosure statements.
  • Engage in bankruptcy-related litigation, including prosecuting and defending preference and fraudulent conveyance actions, foreclosures, and contested plans.
  • Advise and represent DIP lenders, borrowers, sellers, stalking horse bidders, and competing bidders in Section 363 sales.
  • Handle breach of fiduciary duty claims against insolvent companies.
  • Provide strategic advice to clients preparing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy filings.
  • Work on complex, multidisciplinary insolvency problems, collaborating with attorneys in finance, real estate, tax, labor, and corporate law.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience in representing debtors, creditor’s committees, lenders, and investors in bankruptcy cases.
  • Experience in drafting bankruptcy-related documents, litigating bankruptcy issues, and managing complex bankruptcy proceedings.
  • Strong understanding of business accounting and financial issues related to insolvency.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of client service.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Strong academic credentials are required.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the New York State Bar.

Skills:

  • Excellent analytical, oral communication, and writing abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with a team.
  • Proficiency in handling bankruptcy cases, including related litigation and transactions.
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting principles relevant to bankruptcy law.

Work Environment:

  • Hybrid work arrangement: At least 3 out of 5 days per week in the New York office.
