Job Overview: A prominent law firm is seeking a Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Associate Attorney with a minimum of 3 years of experience in data privacy matters. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge issues while collaborating with seasoned attorneys in a dynamic environment. The role is hybrid, based in Chicago, and involves significant client interaction and responsibility in navigating global data protection compliance.

Location:

  • Chicago, IL (Hybrid work arrangement)

Duties:

  • Counsel clients on a wide range of data protection issues, including cross-border transfers, regulatory investigations, and compliance with evolving laws.
  • Assist companies with compliance related to CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, ePrivacy Directive, FTC Act, and other global privacy regulations.
  • Draft and revise privacy notices, terms of service, incident response plans, and other data protection policies.
  • Negotiate and draft professional services agreements, vendor agreements, and data processing agreements.
  • Participate in corporate transactions with a focus on privacy and security-related due diligence.
  • Drive data breach preparation, risk mitigation, and response coordination.

Requirements:

  • Admission to practice law in Illinois with excellent academic credentials.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in data privacy law.
  • Proven experience in advising on compliance issues related to various privacy laws and regulations.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, FCRA, GLBA, COPPA, TCPA, and CAN-SPAM is advantageous.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • IAPP CIPP certification (U.S. and EU) is strongly preferred.

Skills:

  • Deep understanding of U.S. and global data protection legal frameworks.
  • Strong technical knowledge related to internet operations.
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and provide outstanding client service.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a focus on collaboration.
