Job Overview: A leading law firm is looking to hire an associate to join its Business Restructuring & Reorganization team in New York. This team handles a mix of creditor, debtor, and distressed acquisition work, with a focus on high-profile cases. The role provides an opportunity to work with prominent clients such as hedge funds, private equity funds, and financial institutions, while gaining exposure to significant chapter 11 cases and out-of-court restructurings.

Location:

  • New York, NY

Duties:

  • Represent clients on the creditor side, including hedge funds, CLOs, private equity funds, and other financial institutions, in both chapter 11 cases and out-of-court restructurings.
  • Handle debtor-side representations in high-profile chapter 11 cases, including cross-border cases, and out-of-court restructurings.
  • Work on distressed acquisitions and restructuring matters involving complex legal and financial issues.
  • Assist in drafting legal documents, including motions, pleadings, and settlement agreements.
  • Manage cases and communicate directly with clients, providing strategic advice and guidance.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and work on cross-functional teams to address complex restructuring issues.

Requirements:

  • 4-8 years of experience in business restructuring and reorganization, with exposure to both creditor and debtor-side work.
  • Experience with chapter 11 cases, out-of-court restructurings, and distressed acquisitions.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work with complex financial and legal issues.
  • Experience working with high-profile clients, including hedge funds, private equity funds, and financial institutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and handle a high volume of work under tight deadlines.
  • Admission to the New York State Bar or eligibility for admission.

Education:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school (Class years 2017–2021 preferred).

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York State Bar or eligibility to apply.

Skills:

  • Expertise in business restructuring, reorganization, and distressed acquisitions.
  • Strong knowledge of chapter 11 bankruptcy and out-of-court restructuring processes.
  • Excellent legal research, drafting, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and client relationships simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Client-facing communication and interpersonal skills.
