A law firm seeks a Senior Immigration Attorney with 5-8 years of experience to join its growing team in Oak Park, Illinois. Duties:

  • Provide expert legal guidance and develop strategic solutions for clients in immigration matters.
  • Represent clients in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA).
  • Manage a diverse caseload involving both detained and non-detained individuals.
  • Conduct client intake interviews at detention centers and offer legal advice on available options.
  • Prepare and file a variety of immigration applications, including removal defense, family-based petitions, and humanitarian relief.
  • Review and adjust immigration filings for accuracy and completeness.
  • Engage with law enforcement, prosecutors, and community organizations regarding changes in immigration laws and policies.
  • Meet with potential clients, assess their immigration needs, and design tailored legal strategies.
  • Develop and implement case strategies and prepare clients and witnesses for court appearances or USCIS interviews.
  • Draft legal briefs, motions, and other documentation required for immigration cases.
  • Ensure case records are updated and managed efficiently, using case management software.

Requirements:

  • 5-8 years of experience in immigration law, with a focus on removal defense, family-based petitions, humanitarian cases, and other immigration matters.
  • Ability to manage a caseload effectively while delivering high-quality legal services.
  • A collaborative team player who is open to mentoring and sharing strategies with colleagues.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work well with clients, team members, and external partners.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
  • Experience with case management software is highly desirable.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of Illinois.

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and writing skills, with the ability to craft persuasive legal documents.
  • Expertise in family-based immigration, EOIR proceedings, detained cases, citizenship, and USCIS applications.
  • Ability to devise and execute strategic legal plans for clients.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail in managing cases and documentation.
  • Proficiency with case management software and legal technologies.
