Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm, located in Hartford, CT, is seeking an experienced Trusts and Estates Associate Attorney to join its team. This position provides an opportunity to work alongside senior attorneys in offering legal counsel to high-net-worth individuals, families, and businesses, focusing on estate planning, trust administration, and probate matters. The firm offers a hybrid remote opportunity, with periodic travel required to the Bantam office.

Duties:

  • Offer legal counsel and representation on matters related to estate planning, trust administration, and probate.
  • Draft and review a variety of estate planning documents, such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and advance healthcare directives.
  • Advise clients on strategies to minimize estate taxes and protect their assets.
  • Assist in the administration of estates and trusts, including filing legal documents, managing asset distributions, and resolving disputes.
  • Conduct legal research and stay updated on developments in estate planning, tax law, and probate law.
  • Collaborate with clients' financial advisors, accountants, and other professionals to develop comprehensive estate plans.
  • Represent clients in probate court related to estate and trust administration.
  • Maintain strong client relationships through effective communication and understanding of their needs.

Requirements:

  • 4-6+ years of experience as a trusts and estates attorney.
  • Admission to the Connecticut Bar (or the ability to waive in).
  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school and membership in good standing with the bar.
  • Extensive experience in drafting estate planning documents, including complex trusts and estate administration.
  • Familiarity with estate, gift, and fiduciary income tax returns.
  • Experience representing fiduciaries and beneficiaries in Probate Court estate and trust proceedings.
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to absorb and process new information quickly.
  • High level of organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • A positive and professional attitude with a cooperative mindset.

Education:

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Connecticut Bar (or ability to waive in).
