Defense Associate Attorney

A law firm in Purchase, NY, is seeking a Defense Associate Attorney with litigation experience to join their team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing their own caseload under the guidance of senior partners, handling a variety of defense-related tasks, and demonstrating superior analytical and communication skills. This role requires experience in drafting legal documents, attending court proceedings, and preparing for trials.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage an assigned caseload with oversight from senior partners.
• Draft and review motions, pleadings, and discovery responses.
• Conduct legal research and write detailed memorandums on case matters.
• Attend hearings and court conferences to represent clients.
• Conduct and defend depositions, and attend inspections as needed.
• Consult with and manage expert witnesses to support case strategies.
• Participate in mediations and negotiate settlements.
• Prepare for and attend trials, including trial preparation and strategy development.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school.
• Admitted to practice law in New York or certified for admission.
• Admission to practice in Connecticut is a plus.
• 1-5 years of litigation or professional liability experience preferred.
• Strong experience in managing a caseload and handling defense cases.
• Proven ability to draft and respond to legal documents effectively.
• Experience in attending court hearings, depositions, and trials.

Education:

• Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Admission to practice law in New York.
• Certification for admission to practice law in Connecticut is a plus.
