A law firm in San Francisco, CA, seeks an IP Life Sciences Patent Agent with expertise in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, immunology, molecular biology, or related fields. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in the firm's life sciences practice, providing patent prosecution services and strategic IP counsel.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in the life sciences sector, collaborating closely with attorneys and clients.
  • Conduct patentability assessments and freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Assist in patent portfolio management and development strategies.
  • Participate in due diligence investigations for IP transactions.
  • Stay updated with changes in patent laws and regulations relevant to the life sciences industry.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, scientists, and legal professionals on patent matters.

Requirements:

  • PhD or MD in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, immunology, molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, oncology, or a related scientific field.
  • Preferably, post-doctoral research experience.
  • USPTO registration number in good standing.
  • Superior academic credentials with a record of research achievements.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Experience:

  • 1+ years of legal practice experience, ideally within a law firm environment, focusing on patent prosecution in the life sciences field.
  • Familiarity with patent drafting, prosecution procedures, and IP strategy specific to life sciences innovations.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficiency in conducting patent searches and analyses.
