Job Overview
A prestigious law firm located in Wheeling, WV is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Associate to join its Intellectual Property practice. The role is ideal for professionals with a technical or engineering background and a passion for complex patent and trade secret matters. This position offers an opportunity to work on high-stakes litigation cases across various jurisdictions, alongside a collaborative and nationally recognized legal team.

Duties

  • Handle patent litigation and trade secret disputes, including pre-litigation analysis and courtroom preparation

  • Draft legal memoranda, pleadings, discovery responses, and other key litigation documents

  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis on complex technical and legal issues

  • Participate in depositions, expert witness preparation, and trials as needed

  • Collaborate closely with partners and clients in developing legal strategies

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment

  • Engage in proceedings before U.S. District Courts and administrative bodies such as the International Trade Commission and USPTO's PTAB

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of experience practicing in intellectual property litigation

  • Strong research, drafting, and oral advocacy skills

  • Demonstrated initiative, independent judgment, and a commitment to quality

  • Membership in the West Virginia State Bar (or eligibility for admission)

Education

  • J.D. from an accredited law school

  • Undergraduate or advanced degree preferred in one of the following or related fields:

    • Electrical Engineering

    • Computer Science

    • Physics

    • Chemistry

    • Biochemistry

    • Mechanical Engineering

    • Chemical Engineering

Certifications

  • Admission to practice law in West Virginia (active and in good standing)

  • USPTO registration is a plus.
