Job Overview:
A law firm seeks a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Associate Attorney specializing in employment law with a minimum of three years’ experience to join its expanding team in Astoria, NY. This role provides an exceptional opportunity for a dedicated attorney to manage a diverse caseload independently and engage in dynamic work with support for professional growth. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in federal and state employment law, including wage and hour issues, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation matters, across various courts and administrative forums.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Litigation Management:

    • Handle cases involving wage and hour claims, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation under New York and New Jersey laws.
    • Represent clients in individual, collective, and class action cases, managing from initiation to trial.
  • Independent Case Management:

    • Conduct comprehensive legal research and factual investigations.
    • Draft and review complaints, legal letters, motions, oppositions, discovery documents, and settlement agreements.
    • Maintain a diverse caseload with minimal oversight, ensuring high-quality legal services.
  • Court Appearances:

    • Present arguments in motion hearings and manage discovery conferences.
    • Negotiate settlements and provide trial preparation as needed.
  • Client Interaction and Preparation:

    • Conduct client intake, and build and sustain client relationships.
    • Prepare clients for depositions and defend them during proceedings.
    • Evaluate potential new cases for viability and legal standing.
  • Discovery and Depositions:

    • Draft and respond to discovery requests, making effective objections as needed.
    • Conduct and defend depositions, including drafting subpoenas.
  • Professional Development:

    • Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning and professional improvement.
    • Utilize the firm’s case management system efficiently (Smart Advocate).
    • Maintain proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, and Outlook for case and document management.

Requirements:

  • Admission to practice law in New York (required).
  • Minimum of three years of experience in employment and labor law.
  • Knowledgeable in federal and state litigation practices and procedures.
  • Strong skills in legal research, writing, interviewing, and investigation, with a sharp eye for detail.
  • Demonstrated capability in client relations and negotiation.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active Bar License in New York (New Jersey Bar admission preferred).

Skills:

  • Proficiency in case and document management, including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong interpersonal and client management skills with a client-focused approach.
  • Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred.
  • Self-driven and committed to long-term professional development within the firm.
