Job Overview:

A prestigious law firm is seeking a Junior Associate to join its National Security and International Trade practice in Washington, DC. This position is ideal for candidates with 2-3 years of experience in regulatory practices related to export and import controls, sanctions, and foreign ownership mitigation. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced attorneys who will provide mentoring and hands-on training while taking on increasing responsibilities and client interaction.

Location:

Duties:

  • Work on a variety of matters related to national security, international trade, and regulatory compliance.

  • Assist in export and import controls, foreign ownership, control, or influence mitigation measures, and sanctions compliance.

  • Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, briefs, and other legal documents.

  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and clients on complex regulatory issues.

  • Develop strategies for handling trade regulations, sanctions, and related legal matters.

  • Communicate effectively with clients and provide updates on case developments.

  • Take on increasing levels of responsibility and client contact under the guidance of senior attorneys.

Requirements:

  • 2 to 3 years of legal experience in national security or international trade law, or a related regulatory practice.

  • Strong academic credentials from a recognized law school.

  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to think critically and analyze complex legal issues.

  • Strong research skills and attention to detail.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in a state bar (preferably Washington, DC).

Skills:

  • Expertise in export and import controls, sanctions, and foreign ownership regulation.

  • Strong legal research, writing, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.

  • Knowledge of national security and international trade law.

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to analyze complex legal matters.
