A law firm in New Jersey is seeking an Environmental Associate Attorney with 3 to 7 years of experience to join their Environmental Department. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental compliance and litigation at the federal, state, and local levels. This position offers an opportunity to provide legal counsel on complex environmental matters, represent clients in litigation, and manage due diligence for environmental liabilities.

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel on environmental compliance to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Represent clients in environmental litigation, including side remediation cost recovery.
  • Conduct transactional due diligence to assess potential environmental liabilities in business transactions.
  • Draft and negotiate contracts and agreements that address environmental considerations.
  • Develop legal strategies to address and resolve environmental disputes and manage related litigation.
  • Represent clients before key regulatory bodies such as the NJ Department of Environmental Protection, EPA, NY Department of Environmental Conservation, and NY Department of Health.
  • Stay informed on emerging environmental laws and regulations to provide proactive legal advice to clients.

Requirements:

  • 3-7 years of experience in environmental law, including compliance and litigation.
  • Experience representing clients before regulatory bodies such as the NJ DEP, EPA, and NY DEC.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess environmental risks and liabilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client interactions and court appearances.
  • Ability to handle multiple cases and provide strategic advice in a fast-paced legal environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active Bar membership in the State of New Jersey (required).
  • Additional Bar membership in New York is preferred.

Skills:

  • Expertise in environmental law, compliance counseling, and litigation.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and drafting abilities.
  • Experience with transactional due diligence and contract negotiation.
  • Ability to manage complex litigation and environmental compliance cases.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.
