Job Title: Associate Attorney (Asbestos Litigation)

Job Overview: A well-established law firm based in New York City is seeking a skilled and motivated Associate Attorney with experience in asbestos litigation. The position involves comprehensive case handling from initial intake to trial, requiring the candidate to manage and advance complex asbestos-disease cases, interact with clients, and work closely with legal staff. This role is ideal for an attorney who is self-motivated, well-organized, and compassionate about helping clients facing serious health challenges.

Duties:

  • Handle the full scope of case work-up and motions for asbestos litigation.
  • Conduct client and witness interviews to gather and evaluate necessary case information.
  • Conduct depositions of clients, fact witnesses, and expert witnesses.
  • Appear in court as necessary to represent clients.
  • Draft legal documents, including motions and briefs.
  • Assist with preparing discovery for plaintiffs.
  • Manage and respond to communication from clients and opposing counsel.
  • Research and examine records, including Social Security, medical, military, and union documents, to support case development.
  • Delegate assignments to paralegals and legal assistants as needed.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience in asbestos litigation.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and well-organized, with excellent problem-solving and strategic thinking abilities.
  • Ability to adapt and respond to the changing health needs of clients.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of New York (required).
  • Additional Bar licensure in New Jersey and Pennsylvania (preferred).

Skills:

  • Compassionate approach to client interactions, particularly with terminally ill individuals.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Capable of leading and delegating tasks within a legal team.
  • Skilled in legal research and discovery.
