Newark office of a BCG Attorney Search Top Ranked Law Firm seeks a patent intellectual property associate attorney with 4 years of patent experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech/life science field. The candidate will draft, prosecute, and manage U.S. and foreign patent portfolios related to small molecules and biologicals. Will provide strategic counseling on all aspects of patent law, e.g., portfolio exclusivity positions and drafting of freedom to operate and patent invalidity and non-infringement opinions. Participate in and support patent litigations concerning small molecules and biologics (including ANDA litigations). Work closely with clients to identify and protect new intellectual property and counsel and educate clients scientists and product development/business development teams on intellectual property matters. Must be Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Advanced degree in chemistry, biology, immunology, or biochemistry or substantial R&D experience is preferred. However, a bachelors degree with additional experience as a practicing patent attorney would be considered. Experience as an in-house lawyer in small molecule chemistry is considered a plus. Must have demonstrated experience in drafting and prosecuting pharmaceutical patent applications globally, as well as in conducting freedom to operate and patent invalidity and non-infringement analyses.

The candidate should have excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle and prioritize multiple time-sensitive projects. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with minimal supervision. The ability to distill complexity and to communicate decisively with sound judgment is required. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment is required. Should have excellent communication skills and the ability to address complex IP issues and succinctly identify and communicate decisions to a team.
