Job Overview:
A leading law firm is seeking an International Trade Associate with a focus on U.S. sanctions and export controls. The position is open to candidates with a minimum of two years of experience in handling U.S. export controls, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). The role involves advising clients on complex trade laws, conducting compliance audits, investigations, and developing strategies to address potential violations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of U.S. sanctions and export control regulations, with additional experience in trade remedies, trade policy, or customs being preferred.

Location:

  • Washington D.C.

Duties:

  • Advise clients on U.S. sanctions and export control laws, including EAR and ITAR
  • Conduct internal compliance audits and investigations to identify potential violations
  • Develop and implement mitigating and remedial strategies for export control and sanctions compliance
  • Provide guidance on export classification and licensing
  • Assist clients in navigating U.S. trade remedies, trade policy, and customs issues (if applicable)
  • Collaborate with teams to ensure clients are compliant with U.S. trade regulations

Requirements:

  • Minimum of two years of experience in U.S. sanctions and export controls (EAR and ITAR)
  • Experience in investigations related to export control violations
  • Preferred experience in trade remedies, trade policy, and customs
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Stellar academic credentials
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in the jurisdiction of Washington D.C.

Skills:

  • Expertise in U.S. sanctions and export controls (EAR and ITAR)
  • Strong legal research, writing, and communication abilities
  • Ability to assess complex trade compliance issues and develop effective solutions
  • Familiarity with trade remedies, trade policy, and customs law (preferred)
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects
