A law firm seeks a dedicated and experienced Senior Immigration Attorney to join its team in San Jose, CA. Duties

  • Explain immigration concepts and offer tailored strategic solutions to clients.
  • Represent both detained and non-detained individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals.
  • Manage a variety of cases efficiently while adhering to deadlines.
  • Conduct intakes with detained individuals at detention facilities and provide necessary legal guidance.
  • Prepare and submit a wide range of immigration applications, including removal defense cases and family-based petitions.
  • Review and adjust immigration applications or documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community-based organizations to stay updated on immigration law changes and provide training or insights.
  • Meet with prospective clients to conduct strategic consultations and develop case strategies.
  • Develop strategies and prepare clients and witnesses for court hearings or testimony before USCIS.
  • Conduct legal analyses to assess potential case benefits and determine effective legal strategies.
  • Draft and submit detailed legal briefs for various immigration matters.

Requirements

  • Experience:

    • A minimum of 5–8 years of professional experience in immigration law.
    • Demonstrated experience with family-based petitions, humanitarian cases, EOIR (Executive Office for Immigration Review), detained cases, citizenship applications, and other USCIS-related matters.
  • Skills:

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a focus on client-centered service.
    • Proven ability to move cases forward and manage a dynamic caseload.
    • Collaborative team player with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
    • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred but not required.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active membership in good standing with the Bar of any U.S. jurisdiction.

Skills

  • Expertise in immigration law and procedures, with the ability to adapt to changing regulations.
  • Proficiency in case management software is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills for managing legal documentation and caseloads.
  • Ability to effectively represent clients in high-stakes legal proceedings.
