Senior Immigration Attorney

A law firm seeks a seasoned Senior Immigration Attorney to join its expanding legal team in Oak Park, IL. Duties:

• Provide expert legal counsel to clients in various immigration matters, including removal defense, family-based petitions, and citizenship applications.
• Represent clients in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), advocating for non-detained and detained individuals.
• Manage an active caseload, ensuring timely and effective case progression.
• Conduct intakes with detained clients, providing legal advice and assessing the merits of their cases.
• Prepare and file a broad range of immigration applications, including but not limited to removal defense and family-based petitions.
• Review and revise immigration applications, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of submitted documents.
• Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutorial agencies, and community organizations to stay informed on changes to immigration laws and their impact on clients.
• Meet with potential clients to conduct in-depth consultations, evaluate their cases, and determine appropriate legal strategies.
• Develop case strategies, preparing clients and witnesses for court appearances and USCIS interviews.
• Conduct legal research and analysis to assess the viability of potential immigration cases.
• Draft and submit legal briefs for various immigration cases, ensuring persuasive and well-reasoned arguments are presented.

Requirements:

• 5 to 8 years of experience in immigration law, with a focus on removal defense, family-based petitions, and other USCIS applications.
• Proven ability to manage a diverse caseload, moving cases forward efficiently.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a team-oriented approach to client management and collaboration with colleagues.
• Preference for bilingual candidates (English/Spanish).
• Experience working with case management software and legal technology.
• Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
• A strong commitment to providing high-quality legal services to clients.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Active membership in the Illinois State Bar or eligibility to practice in Illinois.

Skills:

• In-depth knowledge of immigration law, including removal defense, family-based petitions, humanitarian relief, and other USCIS applications.
• Legal writing and research skills, with an emphasis on drafting legal briefs and motions.
