Job Title: Mid-Level Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney

Job Overview: A prestigious law firm based in Raleigh, NC, is seeking a skilled mid-level Associate Attorney to join their Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in patent prosecution, with significant experience in application drafting and a technical background in mechanical or electrical engineering. A solid understanding of intellectual property law is desirable, and candidates with experience in related areas of IP will be considered a plus.

Duties:

  • Manage patent prosecution matters, including drafting and filing patent applications.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop effective patent strategies.
  • Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Provide legal advice regarding patent protection and strategy.
  • Work closely with senior attorneys on patent litigation matters.
  • Coordinate with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on various procedural requirements.
  • Draft responses to office actions and maintain client communications regarding case progress.
  • Participate in internal team meetings and contribute to the overall success of the practice group.

Requirements:

  • 3-6 years of experience in patent prosecution, including drafting patent applications.
  • Registration with the USPTO as a patent attorney.
  • Barred in the state of North Carolina.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and organizational ability.
  • Solid analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.

Education:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field is required.

Certifications:

  • Registered with the USPTO.
  • North Carolina State Bar membership is required.

Skills:

  • Patent prosecution and application drafting.
  • Legal research and analysis.
  • Client communication and strategic advice.
  • Experience with patent litigation and other forms of intellectual property law is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
