Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking an experienced Civil Defense Litigation Attorney for its Southfield office to join its growing insurance defense, premises liability, transportation, and general commercial litigation practice. Location:

  • Southfield, MI

Duties:

  • Manage files through all stages of litigation
  • Draft pleadings, motions, responses, and legal correspondence
  • Handle all aspects of discovery, including taking depositions and drafting/responding to interrogatories and requests to produce
  • Represent clients in court proceedings such as motion hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, trials, and evidentiary hearings
  • Provide clients with regular status reports and communicate complex information effectively
  • Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and support staff

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 4 years of litigation experience
  • Experience with drafting pleadings, motion practice, depositions, and case management
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the State Bar of Michigan and in good standing
  • Excellent persuasive writing, legal research, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong professional judgment, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a busy case load while meeting deadlines and paying attention to detail

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the State Bar of Michigan (Required)
