Job Overview:
A respected law firm is seeking a mid-level IP Patent Prosecution Attorney to join its growing Intellectual Property Practice Group. The ideal candidate will have three or more years of experience in patent prosecution, handling a diverse range of patents and industries. The role involves patent prosecution, conducting patent searches, drafting and filing applications, and managing patent portfolios. Experience in mechanical, biomedical, or medical device industries is a plus, although not required. Litigation experience is also a plus but is not essential.

Location:

  • Wilmington, DE

Duties:

  • Manage patent prosecution matters across various industries
  • Conduct patent searches and analysis to support patent filings
  • Draft and file patent applications with the USPTO
  • Provide patent portfolio management and strategy advice to clients
  • Handle client communications and maintain strong client relationships
  • Participate in IP strategy development for clients
  • Optional involvement in patent litigation cases, based on interest

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in patent prosecution
  • Experience with mechanical, biomedical, or medical devices (preferred)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to manage multiple patent prosecution projects simultaneously
  • Familiarity with USPTO procedures and patent laws
  • Experience with patent litigation is a plus but not required
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, biomedical science, or a related technical field (preferred)

Certifications:

  • Admission to the state bar
  • USPTO registration (required)
