A law firm in Las Vegas, NV is seeking a Patent Agent/Technical Advisor with 3+ years of experience to join its Intellectual Property practice. The candidate will be responsible for preparing and prosecuting patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and foreign patent offices. Additional duties include providing technological guidance, counseling on IP strategy, and managing IP portfolios. Registration to practice before the USPTO is a plus, and experience with foreign patent applications is beneficial but not required.

Duties:

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications with the USPTO and foreign patent offices.
  • Provide technological guidance to attorneys and clients in documenting and protecting inventions.
  • Counsel clients on IP strategy, including prior art analysis and IP portfolio management.
  • Conduct comprehensive prior art searches and analyses.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of IP strategies and portfolio management.
  • Draft and review technical documents and patent application materials.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and clients to address IP-related issues.
  • Stay informed on technological advancements and changes in patent laws and regulations.
  • Present information clearly and professionally to clients and colleagues.
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate high integrity in handling sensitive information.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or advanced degree) in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience in patent prosecution and/or technical advising.
  • Registration to practice before the USPTO is a plus.
  • Experience with foreign patent applications is helpful but not required.
  • Industry experience preferred but not required.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and team-oriented.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task independently, manage deadlines, and prioritize case assignments.
  • Proficiency with specialized software and online patent tools as required.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to identify inefficiencies and contribute to process improvements.
  • High level of confidentiality and integrity.
  • Computer self-sufficient, with complete proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or advanced degree) in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.

Certifications:

  • Registration to practice before the USPTO is a plus.
