Job Overview: A law firm in Westlake Village, CA is seeking a skilled Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney to handle all aspects of litigation related to workers' compensation claims. The ideal candidate will possess strong litigation skills and have experience defending claims for benefits including medical, disability, impairment, and employment defenses. Duties:

  • Handle all aspects of litigation, including discovery, depositions, trials, arbitrations, liens, and settlement negotiations and documents.
  • Evaluate and prepare cases for trial.
  • Conduct discovery and prepare for and attend hearings and depositions.
  • Report on hearings, depositions, and appearances.
  • Correspond as needed and file pleadings in response to applicants' claims.
  • Appear at the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB).
  • Prepare correspondence to clients regarding the status and updates of active claims.
  • Perform legal research and analyze cases.
  • Develop and recommend case strategies and plans of action.
  • Write briefs and pleadings.
  • Negotiate settlements.
  • Manage administrative duties related to the practice of law.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in workers' compensation defense.
  • Strong litigation, verbal, and writing skills.
  • Must be in good standing with the California Bar Association.
  • Knowledge of workers' compensation law.
  • Ability to spot legal issues in other areas.
  • Effective caseload management and time management skills.
  • Demonstrate good judgment and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Technologically adept and possess excellent organizational skills.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in the California Bar Association.
