A law firm seeks an experienced Trusts & Estates Associate Attorney to join its New Haven, CT office, with the option of a hybrid remote work arrangement. This role involves delivering comprehensive legal services to high-net-worth individuals, families, and businesses, focusing on estate planning, trust administration, and probate.

Duties

  • Provide legal counsel and representation on estate planning, trust administration, and probate matters.
  • Draft, review, and finalize estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives.
  • Advise clients on strategies to reduce estate taxes and safeguard their assets.
  • Oversee estate and trust administration, including asset distribution, filing necessary legal documents, and resolving disputes.
  • Conduct legal research and remain informed on developments in estate planning, tax law, and probate law.
  • Collaborate with financial advisors, accountants, and other professionals to craft comprehensive estate plans.
  • Represent clients in court proceedings related to probate and trust administration.
  • Build and sustain client relationships through effective communication and understanding of unique client needs.
  • Meet an annual requirement of 1,800 billable hours.

Requirements

  • 4-6+ years of relevant experience in trusts and estates law.
  • Admission to the New York, Connecticut, and/or Massachusetts bar (or ability to waive in).
  • Proven experience drafting estate planning documents, including various types of trusts, and handling complex estate and trust administration.
  • Proficiency in preparing estate, gift, and fiduciary income tax returns.
  • Experience representing fiduciaries and beneficiaries in Probate Court proceedings.
  • Strong legal writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and absorb new information quickly.
  • High level of professionalism, conscientiousness, and attention to detail.
  • Positive and cooperative attitude, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals across various levels of the organization.
  • Military experience is welcomed.

Education

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active membership in good standing with the bar in applicable jurisdictions.
