A law firm seeks a Technology Specialist or Patent Agent holding a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a closely related discipline to join its Pharmaceutical practice group. The successful candidate will play a vital role in safeguarding intellectual property and driving innovation within the pharmaceutical sector.

Duties

  • Analyze technical disclosures and conduct client interviews to gain insight into new inventions.
  • Perform thorough searches of literature and patent databases to evaluate the patentability of proposed inventions.
  • Compose detailed written assessments regarding the potential for obtaining patent protection.
  • Draft patent applications with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Prepare comprehensive responses to communications from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Construct persuasive arguments for patentability to present to Patent Office Examiners.
  • Review existing patents as part of the intellectual property due diligence process for potential mergers or acquisitions.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proven capability to work collaboratively within team environments.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment, maturity, and a curiosity-driven approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective engagement with business leaders, attorneys, scientists, engineers, inventors, and patent examiners.
