A law firm is seeking a skilled Mid-Senior Biotech IP Patent Associate Attorney with a strong technical background in biological sciences. The successful candidate will have experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, managing patent portfolios, and conducting due diligence investigations. This role requires a dedication to exceptional client service, the ability to work directly with clients, and strong leadership and collaboration skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in biotechnology and life sciences, ensuring comprehensive protection of client innovations.
  • Conduct patentability assessments, freedom-to-operate analyses, and provide strategic advice on the development and management of clients' patent portfolios.
  • Perform due diligence investigations for mergers, acquisitions, and licensing transactions in the biotech space.
  • Communicate with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and international patent offices, preparing responses to office actions and managing all aspects of patent prosecution.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, agents, and technical staff to develop tailored IP strategies that align with clients’ business objectives.
  • Provide legal opinions on patent infringement, validity, and other intellectual property-related matters.
  • Assist in patent litigation, including opposition proceedings and appeals.
  • Stay informed on recent developments in intellectual property law, particularly in biotechnology and life sciences.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, providing high-level service and long-term IP solutions.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Certification: Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Experience: 3-8 years of experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications, conducting due diligence investigations, and managing patent portfolios, ideally within a law firm environment.

  • Strong technical expertise in biological sciences with the ability to understand and translate complex scientific concepts into legal terms.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain patent strategies to clients.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Leadership abilities, including mentoring junior staff and leading client engagements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail.
