A law firm seeks a talented and motivated Biotech Patent Agent to join its expanding Intellectual Property team in Boston. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a strong technical foundation in the biological sciences to work in patent prosecution across a range of biotechnology innovations. The ideal candidate will have experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications, evaluating portfolios, and conducting due diligence investigations while providing exceptional client service.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in the biotechnology field.
  • Analyze and evaluate patent portfolios for clients in the biotech sector.
  • Conduct due diligence investigations related to intellectual property assets.
  • Provide strategic advice on patent matters to clients across the biotechnology industry.
  • Collaborate with team members on complex patent cases and IP strategies.
  • Stay current with developments in biotechnology and IP law to advise clients effectively.

Requirements:

  • At least two years of experience in patent prosecution, with a focus on biotech-related intellectual property.
  • Must be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to clients.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Proven leadership capabilities and a client-oriented approach to service.

Education:

  • A Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related discipline is required.

Certifications:

  • Registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is mandatory.

Skills:

  • Strong technical understanding of biological sciences, particularly in the context of patent law.
  • Proven ability to draft and prosecute patent applications.
  • Strong writing skills, including the ability to produce clear, concise legal documents.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to explain complex scientific concepts.
  • Client management and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
