Job Overview:
A law firm seeks a skilled, bilingual Bankruptcy Attorney with a focus on debtor representation to join its team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for advising and representing individuals and businesses in bankruptcy proceedings. This position requires the ability to manage complex financial matters, advocate for clients in various legal proceedings, and communicate effectively in both English and Spanish. Duties:

  • Represent clients in bankruptcy proceedings under Chapters 7, 11, and 13, with an emphasis on debtor representation.
  • Advise clients on debt relief options, financial restructuring, and the bankruptcy process.
  • Draft, review, and file legal documents, including bankruptcy petitions, schedules, and other related filings.
  • Advocate for clients in court, during creditor negotiations, and in trustee meetings.
  • Analyze financial data to develop effective strategies for client outcomes.
  • Clearly explain complex legal concepts and options to clients in both English and Spanish.
  • Stay informed about changes in bankruptcy laws and regulations, particularly those affecting debtor representation.
  • Collaborate with legal and consulting teams to ensure strategies align with client goals.

Requirements:

  • Fully bilingual: Fluency in English and Spanish, both written and spoken.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice law in Puerto Rico.
  • At least 3 years of experience in bankruptcy law, specifically focusing on debtor representation.
  • Strong knowledge of Chapters 7, 11, and 13 bankruptcy processes.
  • Exceptional analytical, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
  • Client-focused with an empathetic approach to handling sensitive financial situations.
  • Proficient in legal research tools and software such as LexisNexis, Westlaw, and document management systems.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities to manage multiple cases.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admitted to the Puerto Rico Bar.
