Job Overview:
A leading law firm is seeking a Mid-Level IP Patent Prosecution Attorney to join their expanding Intellectual Property Practice Group. This position is ideal for an attorney with a strong background in patent prosecution, including patent search, analysis, drafting and filing applications, and portfolio management. Candidates with experience in mechanical, biomedical, or medical devices are highly desirable, though not required. Litigation experience is a plus but not essential.

Location:

  • Charlotte, NC

Duties:

  • Manage and prosecute patent applications for clients across various industries
  • Conduct patent searches and provide detailed analysis
  • Draft and file patent applications with the USPTO
  • Provide strategic portfolio management and counseling
  • Work closely with clients to assess and protect their intellectual property
  • Opportunity for involvement in IP litigation (optional)

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in IP patent prosecution
  • Demonstrated expertise in patent law, including prosecution procedures
  • Strong technical background, preferably in mechanical, biomedical, or medical devices
  • Litigation experience (preferred but not required)
  • Strong client management and communication skills

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, biomedical science, or a related technical field (preferred)

Certifications:

  • Admission to the state bar
  • USPTO registration (required)

Skills:

  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
