Position Title: Employee Benefits Attorney

Job Overview

A reputable law firm is seeking a highly experienced Senior Employee Benefits Attorney to join its team. This role involves providing strategic guidance and legal expertise in employee benefits, retirement plans, executive compensation, and related matters. The ideal candidate brings a wealth of experience in managing complex benefits issues and working collaboratively with clients in various sectors.

Duties

  • Design, draft, amend, and oversee the administration and governance of qualified retirement plans under Code § 401(a) and other tax-favored retirement plans (e.g., 403(b), 457(b)).
  • Collaborate with clients to address documentary, administrative, and fiduciary errors in retirement plans, health and welfare plans, and executive compensation.
  • Advise on benefits and compensation aspects of corporate transactions, restructurings, reductions-in-force, and change-in-control situations.
  • Support clients in creating, documenting, and managing ERISA-compliant health and welfare plans, including summary plan descriptions.
  • Provide legal guidance on multiemployer plan issues, including contract and trust law considerations.
  • Evaluate and address multiemployer pension plan withdrawal liability.
  • Assist with employment-related documents and Code 409A issues.
  • Conduct due diligence for Merger & Acquisition transactions concerning ERISA-related matters.
  • Understand and advise on non-qualified deferred compensation arrangements, including Code §§ 409A, 457, 280G.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience in employee benefits and compensation law.
  • Admittance to the State Bar of Oregon.
  • Demonstrated client service ethic and ability to work independently while collaborating in a team-based environment.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school with excellent academic credentials.

Certifications

  • Admission to the State Bar in Oregon.

Skills

  • Proficiency in legal research, analysis, and drafting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven track record of managing complex projects independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to advise on technical legal matters in a practical, client-centered manner.
