A law firm seeks an experienced Associate Attorney with a strong background in land use, zoning, and municipal law to join its Land Use & Governmental practice group. The ideal candidate will bring at least three years of experience in local government law or a related practice area, with demonstrated expertise in comprehensive planning, zoning regulations, and code enforcement. This role offers a collaborative environment where you will work closely with experienced attorneys and clients across Palm Beach County to support development, regulatory, and property rights matters.

Duties

  • Handle or assist with legal matters related to comprehensive planning, land use, zoning, and code enforcement
  • Attend county and municipal board meetings, council and commission sessions, and code enforcement magistrate proceedings, including occasional evening meetings
  • Represent clients such as developers, property owners, and homeowners' associations in quasi-judicial land use and zoning proceedings
  • Support clients in zoning approvals, preparing and amending zoning ordinances, obtaining special exceptions or conditional uses, and variance requests
  • Conduct in-depth legal research on planning, zoning, and property rights issues, interpreting statutes, judicial rulings, and regulatory codes

Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in land use, zoning, or municipal law, with preference given to experience in county or municipal government or regulatory processes for private property owners
  • Skills:
    • Strong research and analytical skills
    • Proficiency with legal office software, document management, and billing systems
    • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-paced environment
    • Strong organizational skills and a detail-oriented approach

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

  • Admitted to and in good standing with The Florida Bar

Skills

  • Comprehensive understanding of land use, zoning, and code enforcement regulations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and PDF software
  • Ability to exercise discretion, judgment, and handle sensitive matters with confidentiality
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a collaborative team
