A law firm seeks a passionate and dedicated Entry-Level Immigration Attorney to join its team in San Jose, CA. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent law school graduate or newly admitted attorney with an interest in immigration law to develop hands-on experience while contributing to a growing legal practice. The ideal candidate will manage a caseload, interact directly with clients, and collaborate with an experienced team of immigration attorneys and legal assistants. Duties:

  • Provide legal guidance to clients on various immigration-related matters and present strategic solutions.
  • Represent non-detained and detained individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA).
  • Manage a caseload of diverse immigration cases, including preparing and submitting petitions and applications.
  • Conduct client intakes, including visits to detention centers to meet with detained individuals.
  • Draft and prepare a variety of immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based immigration petitions.
  • Review immigration application packets for completeness and accuracy, making necessary adjustments as needed.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community-based organizations to stay informed on changes in immigration law.
  • Conduct consultations with prospective clients, assess their needs, and develop appropriate legal strategies.
  • Assist in developing strategies and preparing clients and witnesses for hearings or USCIS testimony.
  • Provide legal analysis to determine possible case benefits and offer strategic recommendations.
  • Draft and file legal briefs for various immigration-related cases.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated interest in immigration law through law school clinics, volunteer work, or internships.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active bar admission (or pending bar admission for recent graduates).
  • A collaborative and team-oriented approach to legal work.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred, but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients.
  • Ability to manage a caseload and move legal cases forward independently.
  • Familiarity with case management software is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active admission to the state bar (or pending bar admission for recent graduates).

Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong legal research and writing abilities.
  • Ability to handle multiple cases and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Understanding of immigration law, with a focus on both removal defense and family-based petitions.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with legal case management software is preferred.
