Labor and Employment Associate Attorney

A law firm in Costa Mesa is seeking a Labor and Employment Associate Attorney with 3-5 years of litigation experience, including handling claims of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and other areas of California labor and employment law. The ideal candidate will have strong litigation skills, experience in mediation and arbitration, and the ability to manage cases with minimal oversight. Experience in general commercial and civil litigation is also valued, especially if transitioning into labor and employment law.

Duties:

• Represent clients in labor and employment matters, including single plaintiff actions involving claims of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and other employment-related issues.
• Handle all stages of litigation, from initial case assessment to resolution, including taking and defending depositions, researching, writing, and arguing motions.
• Engage in mediation and arbitration processes, preparing clients and cases for alternative dispute resolution.
• Conduct complex fact investigations and legal analysis to support case strategies and client representation.
• Draft and review legal documents, including pleadings, discovery requests and responses, and settlement agreements.
• Manage a caseload with a high degree of ownership and minimal supervision, ensuring timely and effective case progress.
• Collaborate with senior attorneys and other legal professionals to develop and implement litigation strategies.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of California labor and employment law and related legal developments.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school with high academic performance.
• Admitted to and a member in good standing of the California Bar.
• 3-5 years of litigation experience, including involvement in labor and employment law matters such as harassment, discrimination, and retaliation claims.
• Strong litigation skills with a proven track record of handling complex cases.
• Experience in mediation and arbitration is required.
• Trial experience is ideal.
• Ability to take ownership of cases and work independently with minimal oversight.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct complex fact investigations and legal analysis.
• Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
• High level of integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to client service.

Education:

• JD degree from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials.

Certifications:

• Active license to practice law in California.
