Job Overview:

A law firm in Washington, DC, is seeking an experienced BIS, OFAC, and international Trade Lawyer to join its team. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in U.S. export controls, sanctions, customs, and other international trade regulations and a proven track record in counseling, compliance, and regulatory affairs. This role demands exceptional communication and writing skills, strong academic credentials, and significant experience in a large law firm setting.

Duties:

  • Counsel clients on U.S. export controls (BIS), sanctions (OFAC), customs (including tariffs), and other international trade regulations.
  • Conduct training sessions on compliance requirements and best practices related to BIS, OFAC, and international trade.
  • Manage licensing processes and prepare opinion work, including filings and compliance audits.
  • Lead internal investigations and respond to government enforcement actions.
  • Develop and implement compliance policies and procedures related to international trade and sanctions.
  • Provide expert advice on related investigations, including FCPA and national security (e.g., CFIUS).

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in U.S. export controls (BIS), sanctions (OFAC), customs, and international trade regulations.
  • Experience in counseling, training, licensing, opinion work, filings, compliance audits, and internal investigations.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to government enforcement actions and develop compliance policies.
  • Active member of the DC Bar.
  • Experience with FCPA and national security investigations (CFIUS) preferred.
  • Strong academic credentials from a top-tier law school (U.S. JD required).

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a top-tier law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the DC Bar.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in U.S. export controls, sanctions, customs, and international trade regulations.
