Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is seeking a skilled and experienced Of Counsel attorney to join its team in the Irvine, CA office. This position focuses primarily on traditional labor relations, representing employers in various labor matters, including unfair labor practices, union organizing, collective bargaining, and grievance arbitration. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in federal and California workplace laws and will also advise employers on workplace compliance and related matters.

Location:

  • Irvine, CA

Duties:

  • Represent employers in traditional labor matters, including handling unfair labor practice charges at the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).
  • Research and write on labor law issues.
  • Represent management in NLRB elections.
  • Provide legal advice regarding union organizing, corporate campaigns, card check and neutrality agreements.
  • Negotiate and advise on collective bargaining agreements.
  • Handle grievance, arbitration, and unfair labor practice proceedings.
  • Obtain mass picketing injunctions.
  • Advise employers on federal and California wage and hour issues, leave management, and disability accommodations.
  • Review workplace handbooks, policies, and forms for compliance with federal and state laws.
  • Review compensation, commission, and bonus plans for compliance.
  • Conduct management training on labor relations, workplace laws, harassment, discrimination, and retaliation.
  • Participate in due diligence related to workplace law issues in acquisitions and mergers.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 9 years of experience in litigation or advice work as an attorney.
  • Traditional labor law experience preferred.
  • Experience with federal and/or California workplace law advice and counsel work preferred.
  • Active membership in the California State Bar.
  • Strong understanding of current state and federal agency enforcement techniques preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred but not required.
  • Ability to travel for business purposes as needed.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Current and active membership in the California State Bar.

  • Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to handle complex labor relations matters efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to work independently while managing a variety of tasks.
