A law firm seeks a Patent Agent with a strong background in electrical engineering, software, or computer science to join its Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group, located in Winston-Salem, NC. This role involves managing patent prosecution for cutting-edge technologies, particularly in the fields of electrical engineering and software. The ideal candidate will have expertise in patent application drafting and prosecution, along with a solid understanding of networking technologies and wireless communications.

Duties:

  • Draft and file patent applications related to electrical engineering and software technologies
  • Collaborate with clients, engineers, and legal teams to strategize and develop patent portfolios
  • Perform patentability assessments and assist in developing IP strategies
  • Handle responses to office actions and correspondence with the USPTO
  • Support the team with litigation matters when necessary
  • Stay current on advancements in technology and patent law

Requirements:

  • 2-6 years of experience in patent prosecution, particularly in electrical engineering or software fields
  • Experience in design engineering, especially in chip manufacturing, is an asset
  • Knowledge of networking, software, and wireless network technologies (3G/4G/5G) is preferred
  • Admittance to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work efficiently both independently and in a collaborative team setting

Education:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field

Certifications:

  • Must be a registered member of the USPTO

Skills:

  • Proficient in patent prosecution processes and intellectual property law
  • Expertise in electrical engineering and software technologies
  • Strong technical writing and drafting skills
  • Ability to analyze complex technical concepts and translate them into clear legal language
  • Detail-oriented with excellent time-management skills
  • Familiarity with 3G/4G/5G wireless technology is a plus
