Job Overview
An established law firm located in Fort Wayne, IN, is seeking an experienced associate attorney to join their team, focusing on Family Law and/or Estate and Medicaid planning. The firm has been serving the Northeast Indiana area for over a decade and offers a wide range of services, including Family Law, Civil Litigation, Personal Injury, Criminal Law, Bankruptcy, Estate Litigation, and General Practice. The firm is looking for a motivated attorney to manage a caseload, provide legal advice, and handle client interactions.

Duties

  • Conduct new client intake appointments and gather case details.
  • Draft and file pleadings and motions with the court.
  • Create detailed dictations with instructions for paralegals and staff.
  • Draft legal correspondence, including emails, letters, and messages to court staff and opposing counsel.
  • Respond to client inquiries via phone, email, and other communications.
  • Prepare for trial by organizing exhibits, contacting witnesses, preparing trial outlines, and formulating questions for witnesses.
  • Manage and calendar deadlines effectively.
  • Organize and maintain both paper and electronic client files.
  • Prepare legal documents, including briefs, pleadings, motions, discovery, and proposed orders.
  • Conduct legal research and write memorandums of case law.
  • Investigate facts, including background checks, driving histories, skip-tracing defendants, and social media reviews.
  • Schedule, prepare for, and attend hearings, trials, depositions, mediations, and other important legal proceedings.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure coverage of hearings, adherence to deadlines, and client satisfaction.
  • Maintain punctuality for meetings, hearings, and other appointments.

Requirements

  • Admittance to the Indiana Bar is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Family Law, Estate Planning, or related fields.
  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
  • Ability to travel to and from surrounding county courthouses.
  • Organized, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Excellent oral advocacy and communication skills.
  • Compassionate and client-oriented approach to legal services.
  • Willingness to learn and continue professional development.
  • Strong integrity and ethical standards.

Education

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to the Indiana State Bar.
