Job Overview

A law firm seeks an experienced Trusts & Estates Attorney to provide legal expertise in estate planning and trust administration for high-net-worth clients. This position, based in San Francisco, CA, involves designing and drafting complex irrevocable trusts, including Crummey trusts, intentionally defective grantor trusts, and irrevocable life insurance trusts. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, a strong communicator, and able to manage multiple client engagements independently in a fast-paced environment.

Duties

  • Meet or exceed minimum billable hours requirement.
  • Design tailored estate plans for high-net-worth clients.
  • Draft various types of irrevocable trusts, such as:
    • Crummey trusts
    • Intentionally defective grantor trusts
    • Irrevocable life insurance trusts
    • Charitable split-interest trusts
    • Grantor retained annuity trusts
  • Provide planning for:
    • Blended families
    • Generation-skipping transfer tax
    • International estate and cross-border issues
    • Fiduciary income tax matters
    • Estate and gift tax returns
  • Oversee complex trust administration processes.
  • Conduct initial client intake and coordinate with CRM for engagement initiation.
  • Perform thorough legal research and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws.
  • Organize client files, manage client databases, and ensure document management system accuracy.

Requirements

Education

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) degree.
  • Active membership in the California State Bar.
  • LL.M. in Taxation preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in estate planning and trust design for high-net-worth clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead client meetings and manage client communications effectively.
  • Proficiency in federal tax law and California state tax law.

Certifications

  • Active California State Bar license.

Skills

  • Strong analytical, research, and drafting skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Detail-oriented with superior organizational abilities.
  • Ability to multitask and handle a high caseload in a dynamic environment.
  • Collaborative team player, with the capacity to work independently and effectively mentor others.
